Up next on 27 October: Sam George-Allen on ‘Pond’

6-7pm, Tuesday 27 October 2026 at Five Leaves Left, 41 Victoria St Hobart

Join us in October, on our traditional last-Tuesday, as Jane Rawson and guest Sam George-Allen discuss Claire-Louise Bennett’s ‘Pond‘. When I first read this book I couldn’t stop telling people about it: I’d detain them in corners and read out loud. It’s apparently ‘an absorbing chronicle of the pitfalls and pleasures of a solitudinous life told by an unnamed woman living on the cusp of a coastal town…the physical world depicted in these stories is unsettling yet intimately familiar and soon takes on a life of its own’.

Tickets include a can of wine or mocktail and you can buy one here for $10.

Sam George-Allen is a writer, musician and teacher based on unceded Melukerdee country in southern Lutruwita/Tasmania. Her 2019 book, Witches: what women do together, is a celebration of the power and pleasure of women working together. She is currently writing a speculative novel based on her research into the botany of the future; she is also growing apples and thinking about Kate Bush.

WWR is supported by the City of Hobart.
