30 June: Rebecca Armitage on ‘The virgin suicides’

6-7pm, Tuesday 30 June 2026 at Five Leaves Left, 41 Victoria St Hobart

Join us in June as Rebecca Armitage talks with Jane Rawson about Jeffrey Eugenides’ classic 1993 novel, ‘The virgin suicides‘, a book of suburban disquiet that ‘expertly travels across swathes of time, and hints that things do not necessarily get better or worse but only more true; that the past cannot be preserved in the idealised light of adolescence, and that if we looked closely, we could see none of it was ever as pretty as we once thought’.

Tickets include a can of wine or mocktail and you can buy one here for $10.

Rebecca Armitage is an author and journalist, who likes to write about royals. As a journalist, she has written stories about the death of Queen Elizabeth II, the coronation of King Charles III, the exile of Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan, and the abdication of Denmark’s Queen Margrethe. As digital editor for the ABC’s International news team, she has covered several US elections and travelled to Israel to cover the war in Gaza. Her debut novel, ‘The heir apparent‘, is an international best-seller and a bloody good read!

WWR is supported by the City of Hobart.
